Best buy for the money
For the reviewer who had trouble with their car, I think that is the exception. The couple of Redcat cars we've got have worked great out of the box. These are much higher quality cars than you would get from a toy store. Go look how much it is to get a Traxxas. The Volcano is certainly a very good deal since this will run out of the box. If something breaks on this car, you can fix it. If you want to make the car better, you can buy better parts for it. I'd certainly recommend a Redcat to someone getting into the hobby. They are cheap and good quality. I don't believe they require any more maintenance work than any other hobby level RC car. My 6yr old trashes his Volcano and it's never broke.
Note that at some point you will likely want a faster car, and then you'll be looking at brushless motors, new chargers, new batteries, etc.... From what I've read in other reviews, the Volcano may not be the best car for those (expensive) upgrades, but otherwise it is a very nice car.

This is one of three redcats that i own, and i am very happy with it. i bought it for my 8yr old nephew after the traxxas stampede transmission stripped out in two weeks. he runs this into trees cars and other things. he has flipped it and runs it over and over and we havnt had a problem yet. the rc hobby isnt a mantance free hobby. you have to clean them after running them oil bearing clean out motors ect... and you will break parts but that is why you hobby grade and not walmart crap. i have had great luck with support i emailed them and in a few hours i had a solution to my problem.
Great vehicle for the kids
It arrived and the charger didn't work. Christmas day and my son couldn't play with it. Then it took 2 weeks to get another charger. Then the directions on the handheld are not clear at all what the buttons mean, how they work. We called RedCat and the Stock Battery takes 8 hours to fully charge and only 15 minutes of full time use. The only nice thing I can say is the truck is really nice when it runs and the staff at Redcat are VERY helpful. EXcellent customer service and available!
